Former Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins, a convicted child sex offender, killed in UK prison attack, reports say

Ian Watkins — the former lead singer of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets and a convicted child sex offender — has reportedly been killed following an attack inside a British prison.

According to multiple media outlets, the 48-year-old was assaulted at HM Prison Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday morning. Emergency services were called after reports of an attack, but Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene despite medical efforts.

Authorities confirmed that two male inmates, aged 25 and 43, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. The facility, known for housing some of the UK’s most dangerous offenders, was placed under lockdown following the incident.

Watkins had been serving a lengthy sentence for a series of child sex crimes, including the attempted rape of a baby and other serious offences. He was jailed in 2013 after admitting to multiple charges involving sexual exploitation and abuse.

The incident marks the second known attack on Watkins in custody — he previously survived a hostage situation and stabbing at the same prison in 2023.
